A record of my day, without a camera running all day

Peilo’s creator explains timer-only companionship and optional camera observation. Images are processed on the phone, never saved or uploaded.

Creator’s notes · AnyoneKit ·

I care about privacy, and I don’t want a camera pointed at me all day. Some apps I’ve tried ask to use it as soon as I open them. My first instinct is to say no.

But I also want to remember small things I might not notice while I’m working. While building Peilo, I’ve kept coming back to how those two needs can fit together.

Company doesn’t have to mean a camera

Sometimes I just want the little dragon beside me and a record of our time together. Timer-only mode gives me that with the camera off.

I can pause when I need to and resume when I return. This mode provides companionship and a timer, but it doesn’t produce camera-based records of drinking or posture.

Observation is a choice I make

When I want observations, I choose to turn them on. Camera images are processed on the phone as they come in. They aren’t saved or uploaded. Peilo keeps structured records, such as observations of being at the desk or drinking, rather than photos or videos I can replay.

That distinction matters to me. I want something to look back at afterward, but I don’t need a video of everything I did.

Local records and syncing are separate choices

I want to know where my records are and have a say in what happens to them. I can view and delete local records on my phone. Connecting to a computer and syncing history require separate authorization; a connection doesn’t automatically send all my history over.

I can choose to use observation for part of my day, and simply enjoy the dragon’s company at other times. Keeping a few moments doesn’t have to mean running the camera all day.
